Hard Court Cover Construction
National Sorry Day
Dear Holy Family Catholic Primary School Community,
We have had some unplanned work by external contractors on our phone system. In their works, we have somehow lost our whole phone system and it appears it will be down until the new year.
We have purchased a mobile phone which we can now be contacted on. The number is
0487 047 772. Alternatively, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome to Holy Family Catholic
Primary School 2016
Holy Family Catholic Primary School is a small school situated in the northern suburbs of Darwin. Our school is located next door to O'Loughlin Catholic College. With our 3 - 5 long day care option as well, we can cater for your children from 3 years old all the way to Year 12.
Please follow the link below to O'Loughlin's website: oloughlin.nt.edu.au
At the beginning of Semester 2 last year, students returned to school with the exciting vision of the new hard court roof being raised into position by three massive cranes. Below is some time lapse photography of this event. Students are now playing under the roof and are extremely pleased with the new asset to the school.
We have also upgraded our student toilets during this year. This is part of a federal grants program that we applied for last year.
As part of Northern Territory Government Stimulus money, the school is also undertaking three projects:
Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD)
2015 marked the beginning of our Bring Your Own Designated Device (BYODD) iPad program. A great deal of time, research, preparation, school visits, information sessions and planning went into this project over the past two years and implementation was extremely successful during 2015.
Working with upper primary students initially, and progressing down to the lower year levels, students continued to gain their iPad licence. The licence demonstrated that students understand the protocols of the BYODD program and iPad use at school. The licence and policy agreement enabled students to start bringing in their own iPad devices for educational use at school. Our ICT Committee continue to work to maintain and grow this program.
Above on our tabs, you will note one for Learning Powers. This project began in our school last year and is being supported by consultants from TLE North, to implement ongoing improvement in the school. We chose this as a framework for talking about and designing learning. It is about students learning how they learn. The seven learning dispositions are – Changing and Learning, Critical Curiosity, Meaning Making, Creativity, Resilience, Strategic Awareness and Learning Relationships. We are using these dispositions to frame our teaching and learning in the school to develop our students into deep, engaged learners or as our vision says authors of their own learning. Learning Power uses current research to support teachers to grow their teaching in the classroom. Through this project and with teachers and parents supporting each other, Holy Family Catholic Primary School is working at the forefront of education. Please follow the links below for more detail on Learning Power.
We also had students complete the online perception survey called Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory (ELLI). This is an extension of the Learning Powers project and allows us to have rich conversations with students and how they understand themselves as learners. Staff also completed their own ELLI profiles and have set their own learning goals for 2016. We will all complete the inventory again shortly and see where we have improved our Learning Power.
Holy Family Catholic School is a KidsMatter school.
KidsMatter is a national mental health initiative.
KidsMatter Primary has 3 major aims:
· To improve the mental health and well-being of students.
· To reduce mental health problems among students.
· To achieve greater support for those students experiencing mental health problems.
New Classroom Furniture
Last year we purchased new furniture for our classrooms. It supports our thinking on quality education and looks terrific.
