History
The ELC opened in 2003 by then Principal, Margaret Hughes. The name ‘Rainbows’ was given to the service and name is still used today to identify our 2 and 3 year old children. Our service was set up in a part of the school that allowed for a massive outdoor learning area that continues to be developed over the years and most recently, a new playground was installed.
Our pre-school has been running for many years and in 2015, we added an extra room from the school and this became our identified pre-school room with a trained teacher. Allocating this room next to the service also allowed us to have a focus on our younger 2 and 3 year old students which has proved to be a fantastic result for our service.
In 2019, we renovated our rooms which have come up extremely well. It has also allowed us to add an extra toilet which sees numbers now capped at 50.
Our ELC is something our school in incredibly proud of and when we ask our school aged students when they started with us, they always say, ‘Rainbows’! We actually have families with children in our ELC, students in our school and older siblings at the adjoining O’Loughlin Catholic College.
We work hard at attracting quality carers for our service and when they arrive, they tend to stay with us for a long period. We feel this reflects the great service and families that come to our school. The service has a strong relationship with the school which sees Buddy Classes often going in and working with our young ELC students. We also make sure that our transition to school program is one that allows our pre-school students ready to leave and join ‘big school’ for the next year.
