Catherine McAuleyCatherine McAuley was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1778. At the young age of 11, Catherine began to learn the valuable lessons of poverty and dependence of others to survive. She grew up in a Catholic family and made it her mission to create a home for homeless and poor girls in Dublin. This home, named 'The House of Mercy' was opened in 1827 by Catherine along with the help of other nuns and volunteer women. In 1830, Catherine McAuley, along with sisters Anna Maria Doyle, and Elizabeth Harvey formed the 'Sisters of Mercy' which is now an international and established religious organisation reaching all areas of the globe.

Deacon Boniface PerdjertDeacon Boniface Perdjert was born in Port Keats/ Wadeye on May 1936. He helped blaze a trail for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholics to follow as he not only walked between the two worlds - Catholic and Traditional - he brought them together. Boniface's words and action spoke loudly to the members of the Wadeye Community - of which he was deeply loved and respected Elder - but also to the Catholic Heirarchy with whom he shared his wisdom on many official occasions.
